Start Normal Schedule

We have staggered start and end times, to try and help over crowding in the building and on public transport.

On Monday 30th August 2021 your child's mentors will hold an online Google Hangout for ALL parents in their class at 15:30-16:15. This meeting will include a lot of important information, and we ask that all parents attend the online Google Hangout. A link and information about how to join the meeting, will be sent out by your child's mentor before the meeting. We have decided to hold the meetings still online, to help prevent any spreading of Covid-19.

If your child is sick, and unable to come to school on any day of the school year then parents must phone the School's sick line: 090-200 7 303 BEFORE 08:00 each day of the sickness. When leaving a message please remember to state your child's name and which class they are in. If they show symptoms of covid-19 then please get tested immediately.

The main communication channel for the school to parents is via SchoolSoft, a lot of important dates can be found there, and is always updated, so please regularly check in to SchoolSoft to keep updated. One very important date for your diary is the SPTs (Utvecklingssamtal) which will be on Monday 6th September 2021 and will be conducted differently this year. Your child will attend school for their meeting time (20 minutes) and parents/guardians will join the meeting via Google Hangout or via Telephone. There will be a limited number of appointments also available on Tuesday 7th September from 15:30-16:30.

Please note that you will be able to see the schedule for students during week 33 on Schoolsoft and it will also be emailed to you by the mentors. If your child is new to the school, you will get a new login to SchoolSoft once school has started. If you are an existing parent and are having problems logging into SchoolSoft, please contact Mr Haack (benjamin.haack.umea@engelska.se) who will help you. Our SMS function for forgotten passwords does not work.

There is also the annual PRAO day for all students, to spend a day at their parents/friend of the family job to get an insight into the working world, and this will be on Friday 17th September 2021. It might not be possible for students to participate in PRAO due to Covid-19 restrictions, so more information will follow nearer the time, but the plan is that school will be closed to students on this day.

Wishing you all an enjoyable and relaxing last few days of Summer holidays, and I can't wait to see all the students on Monday 23rd August 2021, ready for a new term and ready to learn.

Student Work

Creating shoes

IESUmeå’s Year 8 students have been hard at work creating shoes with a 5cm heel  that can withstand their weight, and can survive a walk around the classroom. We learned about the different forces exerted on shoes while walking, and have been discussing solid and stable constructions. The students had to think about different elements of design, and how to best support weight using simple materials from school. They did a fantastic job combining both engineering and creativity!
