Go Year 4 students of IES Umeå!

Congratulations to Philip for winning this year's Umeå Chess Tournament. Philip along with two of his classmates, Sena and Glenn have qualified to attend the finals which will be held in Stockholm. While this is a non-school related function, a big thank you goes out to our students, their families and Mr Niklas Nabb along with the rest of the Math team of IES Umeå for all of their support. We were told that Internationella Engelska Skolan has the most representatives in the finals than any other school. Here are our guys that qualified to go to Stockholm:

Hispanic Culture - a Cultural Diversity Celebration!

Hispanic Culture - a Cultural Diversity Celebration!

Hispanic culture, a cultural diversity celebration!

A brief introduction to the Hispanic culture with Ms. Parpala.

Spanish speaking countries, the language, idioms, legends, arts, music, cuisine, history, social & family values of the Hispanic people!

We’ve had a great time with our photo booth, we learned how to do “Piñatas” and dance “Salsa”. We also made the most delicious “Guacamole” while listening to Hispanic songs and music like the famous guitarist Paco de Lucía and Shakira. Watching the “Flamenco” dance was so fascinating and of course… We’ve had a blast breaking the “Piñatas”!

Please check out our website's photo gallery for more pictures from our event!

Marvelous IES Umeå

Written by 7A students of IES Umeå.

What makes IES Umeå such a marvelous school? This report will answer this question and fill your mind with thoughts of why we are so proud of our school. The following topics are only touching the surface of the many reasons IES Umeå is the best!

Awesome environment

Here at IES Umeå we have a nice bond between students and teachers because we listen, we learn, we laugh, we respect and we do no harm. That is why we have a friendly environment. We have a lot of clean toilets too because we respect our environment and keep it clean.

Rules

Bullying is strictly prohibited at IES which leads to a safe environment for both students and teachers. We do not use mobile phones so the students can focus on their education which is also why students get better results at IES. If you break the rules, you can get a behavior notice, but by following these rules, we make IES a school which is fun to go to and that creates a positive spirit!

Food versus candy

Here at IES Umeå, it is important to eat fresh and healthy food. The food helps us to concentrate, therefore, we get more energy and get better results. We have always two or more dishes so the students can choose what they want to eat. We have also vegetarian food so everybody can decide which dish they want. The food is fabulous so there is no need for candy. We know that a lot of vegetables will make your brain work better!

Houses

A new update to the school has been added to motivate students to behave better and to also have a chance of winning a reward, introducing “Houses”. IES Umeå has four different houses with chosen colors: “Fire” house is red, “Earth” house is green, “Water” house is blue, and “Air” house is white. Once a week they have competitions, like Harry Potter trivia, to earn house points. You also get house points for being nice and having good behavior. The points are for encouraging students to behave well in school.

Surgery and study time

Surgery and study times are something unique we have here at IES, where students come to extra study, doing homework, or taking a test that they have missed. Most of the surgeries are in the afternoon and the study times are on Friday mornings. There are more students coming to study time than surgery. These specialties that IES offers has helped many students that need more help in school.

We hope you now got the answer as to why IES Umeå is such a marvelous school and why we are so proud of it. If you join our school, you will experience all these advantages that IES Umeå is offering.
